This trial was to look at methods to determine the presence and extent of erosion and level of erosion risk in the context of monitoring. Evidence may be gathered from remote sensing and field measurements.
Temporal data from ground-based monitoring sites builds up a body of knowledge on local landscape processes. By relating time-series satellite data to temporal on-ground measurements, insight is gained into the response of systems in various conditions. Based on these relationships, confident extrapolation of trend and condition across the broad landscape from satellite data is possible (Karfs 2002).
